New York City Apartment Building Burn Victim of the Decade

WARNING: SHOCKING IMAGES

Agnes Bermudez was not happy that her carpet-cleaning boyfriend was out clubbing and cavorting with another woman.

What did the 50 year-old cougar do to her 32 year-old paramour, William Salazar?

A) She told him she never wanted to see him again, and left him.
B) She broke every dish in his house, and secretly sewed shut all the zippers in his pants.
C) She brought him on “The Jerry Springer Show,” and told the world she slept with his 15 year-old son out of spite.
D) She doused him with his own carpet cleaning solution, set him on fire, killing him, Heriberto Garcia, 57, and their 20-year-old son, Felipe Garcia Sandoval at Salazar’s Middle Village, Queens apartment.

If you used the context clues of this headline and the warning, you probably guessed “D.”

The arson occurred at Salazar’s apartment, located at66-76 69th Street. The property is a three-story mixed-use apartment building with ground floor retail, erected in 2004.

Security cameras not only capture assaults inside apartment buildings and apparent police brutality. They also capture images of people flailing in pain when they’re on fire.

Former Bronx Assistant District Attorney David McGruder is defending Bermudez at trial. He claims that Salazar set the fire himself.

McGruder argued that a jury should not be allowed to see these images because they are inflammatory.

No better word for it.

Agnes Bermudez lies on the ground on fire as her boyfriend William Salazar is turned into a human fireball in a New York street. She is accused of dousing him in carpet cleaner and setting it alight.

The couple are both in flames as Salazar makes a run for a shop in a bid to find water to douse the fire.

Shop workers look on in horror as Salazar runs into a convenience store next door to his apartment building looking for water to put out the flames.

A shop worker runs to grab some water and move out of the way as Salazar turns and heads back out of the store.

Salazar screams in pain as he runs outside. He was followed by deli owner Mohammed Almatari and good Samaritan George Zugajewicz who throw water over him.

Almatari pours water over him, as Bermudez lies on the ground still burning.

Firemen surround Bermudez after the flames have been doused. Salazar can be seen second left. He died four days later in New York Hospital’s Burn Center after suffering 50 per cent burns to his body.
